Information
HMB is an active metabolite of leucine.
It has been shown to have an anti catabolic role, but fails to be more efficacious than its parent for inducing muscle protein synthesis.
Approximately 5% of leucine is oxidises in HMB and it is the main metabolite of leucine.
It is important to note that HMB more effectively prevents the degradation of the muscle protein.
This, in turn, makes it an extremely important supplement for all athletes training hard and long.
Compared to leucine, HMB seems to be significantly more powerful in its role to protect the muscularity from breakdown.
Its "Achilles heel" is the inability to provide this protein synthesis in the way that leucine does.
Furthermore, HMB is marketed as an anti-inflammatory agent (designed to reduce the degree of damage to muscles), not an anabolic agent (designed to increase muscle mass).
It is often prescribed by physicians in conjunction with glutamine in patients with AIDS.
Science assumes that about 3 grams of the supplement are equivalent to 60 grams of leucine (in terms of antiviral action).
Directions for use:
